7 Essential items you Must Carry when driving in Spain

in Expat Life, Expat Tips and Hints, Facebook Posts, General

Don’t forget to always carry the following things in your car when travelling in and around Spain.

  1. Passport or ID Card
  2. Driving Licence
  3. Insurance Certificate
  4. Original registration document (permiso de circulación)
  5. Ficha Tecnica/itv (Mot Certificate)
  6. Two warning triangles
  7. Reflective Jacket(s) – for anyone who gets out of the car on a main road.
If you are driving a UK vehicle, there are two extra requirements. You must also have headlight deflectors fitted to stop your lights dazzling oncoming drivers, and have either Euro reg plates with a GB on, or a GB sticker on the car.
If you don’t want to carry your passport around with you all the time – I know I don’t – you can get away with having a notorised copy in the car. Just go to the Notario nearest to you and they will copy your passport for a fee of around €10. As is normal, you’ll probably have to go back to collect the copy the next day, unless you’re very lucky 🙂

I caused a small accident in Torrevieja but the local police didn’t check these. Only driver’s licence and the insurance (green card) were asked…
